“Different faces, different times, but the same souls, meeting each other again and again.”
Oh this was simply stunning! π Another of those books I’ve had for too long that I’m only just getting around to reading, but god it was worth every tiny glorious second. I read another of this author’s books last year, A Diary of Unfaithful Stories, and I can’t believe how different it is. Lora’s talent knows no bounds! I’m so happy to be sharing my review of London Love Life by Lora Kay!

About the book
Patricia is a young woman who leaves her home behind and arrives in London, unaware that destiny is pulling her toward a reunion with people from her past life. In this new city, she meets David, who is drawn to her just as deeply as Davide, the husband who adored her in another life. Patricia also reconnects with Lucy, a friend whose bond with her stretches back through the centuries, and eventually meets her true soulmate, Martin – the man destined for her in both lives.
Most importantly, Patricia reconnects to her lost daughter in the face of Betty, a woman with her own haunting dreams of another life. All threads of their past weave through their present, creating a story where soul connections transcend time.
‘London, Love, Life’ explores not only the power of love but the mysterious ways in which souls are drawn back together, even when the human mind can’t comprehend the signs.
The beginning
I love it when you start a new book and the writing instantly grabs you. I enjoyed beautiful, heartfelt words and such gorgeous description right from the first page, and this was consistent in every single page I read. Patricia feels like she doesn’t belong and a brand new start in London is exactly what she needs. Leaving her family behind, she sets up her new live, starting a new job, making new friends. And even though it’s tough, she soon settles into a routine. London becomes her home. Love and friendship play a big part in Patty’s story, with her friends, Lucy and David being so important in her growth as a person. David shows an interest in Patty early on, which she doesn’t return. But when she quite literally bumps into Martin, she knows he’s the one she’s been dreaming about. Her soulmate. But this story is much deeper than all that. Yes, it’s about the power of love, but it’s also about the pull of souls being connected in different lifetimes. I couldn’t wait to explore this more! It began to remind me a little of a book I read last year, Life Number Nine, which I really enjoyed.
The middle
The way Patty’s story is told was so unique. We experience two very different lifetimes for her as they intertwine, with familiar characters from her present day life playing a part in a completely different narrative, like they were always meant to be a part of her story. The connections between both versions of her life blew me away! It was so complex, so deep, so cleverly written and I was completely absorbed in the detail. Descriptions of love, life, family and friendship was explored so brilliantly. This huge shift in narrative worked so well. I love the idea that people are sent to meet us and guide us in a certain direction, even if they do not stay. It’s fascinating to think about, and I was doing a lot of thinking while reading this! I loved the surprising addition of the gods, especially Juno, the goddess of marriage and childbirth, visiting Patricia to warn her or to deliver important messages. Yet I also really admired the way Patty, in both these lifetimes, knows her soulmate is somewhere. There’s a dark edge, death and loss, but there is also so much good. The portrayal of fate was captivating.
The end
After the complete whirlwind of this differing lifetime, we’re placed back in the original life of Patty and Martin, two characters who felt much more full, much more developed than they originally did. Over time, I’d grown to love these two characters, their stories really having such an impact on me. But we’re also thrown into a new character’s life, Betty, a woman with her own dreams of a completely different life, a character who we know at this point to be Patty’s daughter from her other life. It sounds complex, and it is in some ways, but the whole thing is so easy to follow thanks to the author’s effortless storytelling, her gorgeous words. I could have enjoyed a book three times this book’s length, all about these characters and their different lives lived, each one filled with a mystery, a feeling, that what is meant to be will be and that there is someone out there for everyone. It really makes you think about fate and the possibility of living in different lifetimes, whether you believe it all or not. And it is something quite beautiful. This book left me on such a high and I’m so sad it’s over!
Overall thoughts
London Love Life is one of those books that stays with you for all the right reasons. We meet Patty who heads to London to start a brand new life, but she is unknowingly reunited with people from a past life. She meets important people who would become her friends and her soulmate in two very different lifetimes. These two lifetimes are explored in such depth for such a short book, and it was completely captivating. Love, deep personal connection, unbreakable bonds and fate are intertwined with full characters and such beautiful storytelling. Lora’s words are as powerful as they are beautiful, so rich and thought-provoking. I couldn’t help thinking about the “what ifs” in an alternate lifetime, a parallel universe. How things could be so much different to the lives we’re living right now. And it also made me think of the things that can and cannot be controlled in life. I could go on and on about this forever! If you want a book to make you think, a book to fill your heart with love and warmth, to make you see and appreciate all the good your life has to offer, this is the perfect read for you.
