Review Policy

It goes without saying that I love books and love reviewing them. To ensure we’re on the right page about the types of books I review and how I review, please give my book review policy a little read before contacting me! ⬇️

I’ll always give every book I review the same care and attention, whether it’s been traditionally published or self published, whether it’s a super well known title or an indie title. That’s how I’ve always worked, and always will! I pride myself on giving honest and insightful reviews each time I sit down to write one – so please know your book will get the treatment it deserves!

For authors and publishers:

I read a lot of different genres (if you’ve had a look around my blog, you’ll know this already!) so it’s easier to list the genres I’ll probably not accept:

  • Religion
  • Erotica
  • Fantasy
  • Sci-Fi

However, again, if you’ve had a look around my blog, you’ll see I’ve reviewed a lot of these genres already – just know before you contact me that it’s quite rare I accept requests for these kinds of books because I’m very picky and usually enjoy handpicking them!

Some of my favourite genres include:

  • Thrillers/mysteries (psychological/crime thrillers are my absolute favourite!)
  • Romance/rom coms
  • YA Fiction
  • Contemporary/women’s fiction
  • Paranormal/horror
  • …the list goes on!

If you’re not sure or your genre isn’t listed here, please feel free to contact me anyway and we can have a discussion.

Formats I accept:

  • Physical paperback/hardcover copies
  • eBooks (.epub preferably but also accept PDFs if needed)

I also accept ARCs and uncorrected proof copies in either format.

My review process

I always review a book as I read it, mainly so I don’t forget any of the things I loved, but it also ensures I can write in the moment, when my thoughts are clear and the passion I have for what I’m reading (hopefully) shines through! I split my reviews into four different sections; I cover the beginning, the middle and the end of the book, as well as summarise my overall thoughts at the end. This format feels really good for me, so I can’t see it changing any time soon!

Whether I bought a book myself or whether it was gifted to be by an author or publisher, I always give my honest thoughts and feedback. If the book is gifted to me, I’ll always mention this in my review and give a huge thank you to the people involved!

My rating system

I will never guarantee to give a book a positive review due to the honest nature of my reviews. There may be instances where the book just isn’t for me, which doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad book, just that it may be better suited to a different reader (and that’s okay!) I’ll always state this in my review if this is the case.

Here’s how I see my own star rating system:

5 Stars – A perfect book in my eyes. Absolutely flawless in every way. Lemme read it again! Right now!

4 Stars – An incredible book with some very minor aspects that weren’t to my particular taste (but might be perfect for someone else!) A hugely recommended read.

3 Stars – A good book, but some things didn’t work as well as they could have for me, or one that didn’t really include a stand out story or information.

2 Stars – There are one or two good aspects of this book, but it really needs more work to keep me interested.

1 Star – You wrote a book and I admire that!

DNF – I’ve never not finished a book. So things are looking good on this front!

I will only publicly post a review on my blog if I rate it 3 stars or above. If I feel like a book should be rated lower than this, I’ll privately share my review/feedback with the author/publisher.

Where I share my reviews

I love to shout about the books I review on social media. Instagram is my main platform with 7.1K followers, and Twitter follows up close second with 4K followers. I have also jumped into the Threads community with 800+ followers. We’ll see how it goes…

Aside from social media and (of course) my blog, I share my reviews on Amazon, GoodReads and BookBub, but can always review in other places if needed. Just let me know!
