Q&A

Me walking in Tenerife!

Where did the name ‘A Quintillion Words’ come from?

I love words. The fancier the better! Oxymoron, juxtaposition, quintillion… now there’s a good one! My surname also happens to be ‘Quinn’, so A Quintillion Words was born. Maybe I’ll write a quintillion words before my blogging time is up! 🙂

Why did you start a blog?

When you’re passionate about something, you want to do it all the time! My passion is writing so having my own space to ramble on is perfect for me. I want to help other writers to feel as passionate as I do and to get their work out there! If I can help at least one person on their writing journey, then my blog has served it’s purpose well.

What do you blog about?

My main priority is to share my own experiences in writing fiction and the techniques I use to become the best I can be. I also mix it up a bit and include posts about general life stuff and the adventures my better half, Case and I go on together. I’ve recently started up some book reviews too. It’s definitely encouraging to get reading other people’s work again!

When did you know you wanted to become a writer?

I knew I loved writing when I was around 7 or 8 years old, but I actually only realised I wanted to pursue it as a career in the last few years! Strange, I know. I never really knew about the career opportunities for writers while I was at school. I only realised it when I was already in work. Believe it or not, working as a teaching assistant in a Primary school sparked my creativity back up again. Helping the class write their own stories definitely brought my spark back!

What is your day to day job?

When I’m not blogging in the evenings, I work as a Digital Strategist. This job is amazing; every day I get to do something different. From writing content to exploring the big scary world of SEO, each day is a huge learning experience, and I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Who are your influences?

This is a funny one. As a writer, people would expect your influences to be world renowned authors and poets. Shakespeare or J.K.Rowling. Edgar Allan Poe or Stephen King. My influences however, are the people who have encouraged me and believed in me. The bands I grew up with that just seemed to speak my language. The video games I played as a kid that grew my love for story telling. Those guys are the real heroes!

What can we expect from A Quintillion Words in the future?

Lots more (hopefully) informative posts to motivate all my fellow bloggers. It’d be nice to expand my categories too, but not for a while – that’s something for later down the line! I’d like to do more book reviews and work with other bloggers on projects eventually too. The future is bright and I’m very much looking forward to it! 🙂
